Organizing, not just for adults.
Organizing for kids can be a challenging, but essential, task for creating a functional and clutter-free home. With the right tools and strategies, it can be a successful and enjoyable process. Here are some tips for organizing for getting them involved:
Get your kids involved: Involve your kids in the organization process by having them sort through their belongings, decide what to keep, and find a designated place for each item. Kids rarely wants to get rid of things. Saying things like “wow, you’re so grown up now, you no longer need this book to learn how to count” or “this toy was so much fun, I think it’s ready to be fun for another kid now”. I really love when my kids donate things. We have a donate bin in the garage and they fill it up! Take your child to a donation center or store. they will see first hand how things they give away make other people happy.
Create a kid-friendly system: Create a system that is easy for kids to use and understand. Color-coding and labelling storage areas are super helpful because it cuts down the steps in the clean-up process. For example, if they have a yellow book in their hand during clean-up they know it goes with the books, and anywhere in the yellow section.
Make it fun: Organizing can be a fun and rewarding process for kids. Consider turning it into a game or challenge, such as a scavenger hunt to find items that need to be organized or a race to see who can put away their belongings the fastest.
Set up routines: Establish daily, weekly, and monthly routines for your kids to maintain their organized space. This may include a daily 10 minute tidy-up, weekly toy purge, and monthly donation of outgrown clothes and toys.
By involving your kids in the organizing process, you can not only create a more organized space but also teach them important skills for managing their belongings.
